What technical requirements are necessary to use your Fonito phone service?

Why do I need a Router?
The purpose of the router is so that you can share your internet connection with your PC. This way, you can browse the Internet while you are using our Fonito phone service.

Does this work with my cell phone?
No, this service cannot work with your cell phone because you need to have a touch tone phone plugged into your SPA-2000 Device which in turn is plugged into your high speed internet connection. However, you can have calls forwarded to your cell phone.

Can I use Fonito service outside of the US?
Yes, you can use our service anywhere in the world, as long as you have a high speed internet connection.

Why is Fonito service different from other voice-over-the-Internet offerings?
With Fonito, you will receive a complete phone line with a dedicated phone number that anyone in the world can call. You do not need to use access numbers or calling cards. It works exactly the same as your traditional phone line works. It includes all the features you need such as Call Waiting, Caller Id, Call Waiting Caller Id, Call Transfer, 3 Way Calling, Call Forwarding, Caller ID Block, Return Call (*69), Busy Redial (*66) and many others

What are the bandwidth requirements to use your phone service?
Generally, the best results are obtained with upstream and downstream bandwidths greater than 64 kb/s in both directions. Telephone service can be obtained below 64 kb/s but audio quality may not be up to par.

Do I need a static IP to use this service?
No, you do not need a static IP address to use this telephone service. The devices that we provide work in a dynamic address (DHCP) environment, which is standard with most routers.

I do not have broadband service right now. I am looking into getting a DSL or Cable modem. Which one works better with your service?
Both DSL and cable modem services provide sufficient broadband Internet access bandwidth to support this service. We do recommend cable over DSL because it provides a slightly greater speed.

My DSL provider requires me to keep a phone line with them. How can I take advantage of Fonito's savings ?
If your DSL provider forces you to keep a phone line with them, simply reduce the line to their least expensive and most basic line they offer. Even when you add the cost of Fonito service to the cost of their basic line you will still get a lower total price with many more features, lower international rates, and a lower total phone bill.

How do I make local, long distance or international calls?
Local - Just pick up the telephone connected to the Fonito service and call the number you are trying to reach. Remember that you always must use 11 digit dialing, i.e. 1+area code+phone number.
Long Distance - Just pick up the telephone connected to the Fonito service and call the number you are trying to reach. Remember that you always must use 11 digit dialing, i.e. 1+area code+phone number.
International Calls - Just pick up the telephone connected to the Fonito service and call the number you are trying to reach. To dial international you need to dial 011 + country code + city code + phone number.

I live in Houston, TX and my mother lives in Paris France. She has Fonito service. What do I need to dial to reach her?
You just need to dial 1 and her 10 digit Fonito phone number, no matter where in the world you are calling. Remember, any calls made from a Fonito phone to a Fonito phone are always FREE.

Is there a way to connect all of the phones in my house to your service?
The devices that we provide have only one phone jack per line. You can use a multiple analog jack extension connector to allow multiple phones to be connected to the device. Another option is to use a cordless phone system. These phone systems come with a base unit and extra handsets. You just plug the base station of the cordless phone plugs into the Sipura adapter and the extra handsets can then be placed anywhere in the house.

If I change the location of my adapter, will my IP Address change?
Yes, adapter's IP address will change if it is moved to a different network connection. However, it will synchronize itself once connected and powered on so a change in the IP address will not impact your service.

Can I use my Fonito account with a dial up internet connection?
No.

Can I plug my fax machine into my adapter for faxing?
Yes, you can fax over our network. You can order a second dedicated line as a fax line or you can use a splitter. You need to set your fax to 9600 baud or lower.

Will your phone service interfere with my DSL or cable modem data/computer connections?
Our phone service will not interfere with your ability to go onto the Internet as long as you are using a router to share your high speed internet connection with your computer.
The way our service works is that it routes your incoming and outgoing voice calls right alongside the data being sent to or from your computer. Thus, you can use your high-speed Internet connection for more than just web surfing. You can make and receive calls while you use your computer to access the Internet, as well as when your computer is off or not connected to the Internet. We use advanced audio compression techniques to minimize the data traffic caused by voice calls and maximize the bandwidth available for your other Internet traffic.

Do I need to use special dialing codes in order to use the Fonito phone?
No. Your new service works just like a traditional phone: dial 1+area_code+number for US/Canada, dial 011 + country_code+number for international calls. There are no special codes required to use our broadband telephone service.

Does your service support multiple phones lines on a single account?
You can have 2 phone lines per SPA-2000 device. If you need more than 2 lines, we can send you multiple devices. You will be charged per line, depending on the service that you pick.

What happens when I change service providers for my broadband?
Our broadband telephone service is not associated with your broadband Internet service provider. There should be no change to your Fonito phone service if you change your broadband provider.

I am experiencing poor audio quality when placing or receiving Fonito calls. What can I do about this?
Check with your Internet provider to see what download and upload speeds they are providing. In order for the SPA-2000 to function properly you need to have a minimum of 128k download and upload speed.

Can you ship to international addresses (outside the United States)?
As of now, we can only ship to US addresses.
